Veterinary Exam

Routine veterinary exams are an opportunity to address changes in your dog or cat’s health.

Veterinary exams help our team to provide your pet with the best care possible by assessing their overall health. Our checkups include a series of tests and full physical examination that provides us with a complete picture of their internal and external health. Our goal is to support your furry friend’s wellbeing by staying up-to-date with any changes in their health since their last visit.

What is the purpose of a veterinary exam?

A veterinary exam is similar to the yearly checkup with your doctor. It’s an opportunity to ask any questions about your pet’s health. It’s important to bring even things that might seem insignificant to the forefront because they could inform the type of care your furry friend receives. No question or issue is too small. Any subtle changes in your pet’s behaviour could be an indication of underlying issues. If we can diagnose early, the better equipped we are to fully treat them.

What happens during the appointment?

Our veterinary team will perform a physical examination of your pet, which might include checking their weight, mobility, posture, skin, etc. We will assess your pet’s vitals, like their heart rate and breathing to make sure there are no abnormalities. The appointment will also include wellness screening tests, where your pet’s blood and urine will be analysed to ensure their internal organs are working at optimal level. Since we have a well-equipped laboratory on-site, we can get results back quickly to share them with you. Based on our examination, we will make recommendations about the best ways to support your pet’s health, including dental care, weight management and more.

How often should I schedule a veterinary exam for my pet?

We recommend most adult pets visit us at least once a year. For smaller furry friends, they’ll need more frequent checkups to ensure they’re developing well and receiving all the care they need. For senior pets, semi-annual visits are best. If your pet is due for their veterinary exam, please schedule their appointment at 403-337-3221.
